What is Climate Front Marathons?

A global marathon series set in remote and climate-vulnerable regions around the world. Each event highlights unique landscapes, local cultures, and the climate challenges these communities face.

Why organize marathons in such unusual places?

To create meaningful, unforgettable experiences while raising awareness for regions deeply impacted by climate change. These events bring visibility, tourism support, and international connection to small communities.

Do you organize travel or accommodation?

No. To stay flexible and compliant with international regulations, we offer only the marathon entry. Participants arrange their own flights and hotels.

Where do your marathons take place?

Our current planned or developing events include:

  • Kiribati Marathon (Pacific Ocean)
  • Cap-Haïtien Marathon (Haiti, Caribbean)
    Additional destinations are being explored.

How is safety managed at the destination?

We work directly with local authorities, police, and municipal administrations to plan race routes and coordinate support systems to the extent reasonably possible. However, due to the remote nature of the event locations, participants acknowledge and accept that medical facilities and emergency response capabilities may be limited or delayed.

Participants further acknowledge that certain risks may arise from environmental or external factors, including weather conditions and interactions with animals, which are outside the Organiser’s direct control. Safety is treated as a key operational priority, and participants are expected to take personal responsibility for their preparation and conduct throughout the event.

Is there a participant limit?

Once the limit is reached, registeration will close and additional runners should contact the Organiser via email.

What mandatory equipment do I need?

Are aid stations available?

Yes, located reasonably depending on the course and climate. They include water, electrolytes and shade.

What if the weather is extreme?

The race may be delayed, adapted, shortened, or cancelled for safety reasons. Participant safety is always the priority.

How do you ensure runner safety in remote regions?

  • Coordinated police presence
  • Ambulance or designated medical teams
  • Safety checkpoints
  • Mandatory gear requirements
  • Early morning start times
  • Hydration rules
  • Strict heat-management protocols
  • Route selection based on safety data and government guidance

Do I need travel insurance?

Yes. All participants must have personal travel insurance covering medical emergencies abroad.

What is the time limit?

The official and partial road closure is planned for approximately 5.5 hours (TBC – 4:00 AM – 9:30 AM).

There is no strict cut-off time for finishing the marathon. All registered runners will be allowed to complete the full 42.195 km distance.
However, road closures and traffic management cannot be guaranteed beyond the official closure window. Runners who require additional time must proceed with caution and follow local traffic regulations at all times. Participant safety remains our top priority.

Do I need a visa?

This depends on your nationality and the event location. Please check official government sources before booking.

How do I reach the race destination?

Participants must book their own preferred flights and accommodations. We provide general travel guidance but not packages.

Is the registration refundable?

The registration is non-refundable. However, the package can be transferred up to 2 months before the event.

What if the race is cancelled due to weather or government restrictions?

We will offer postponement or partial credit where possible, but full refunds cannot be guaranteed due to fixed local organizational costs.

Does my participation support climate initiatives?

Yes. Each marathon includes a climate-awareness component, and we partner with local communities to support sustainable practices, environmental education, and cultural preservation. 10% of the registration fees are granted to the Government of Kiribati and 5% are granted to the local ecological charity chosen by the government.

Is this a for-profit or non-profit project?

Climate Front Marathons operates as a small, independent organization with a mission-driven model. The goal is meaningful impact, safe events, and fostering cultural and environmental awareness—not mass-market tourism. The project itself is not an NFPO, however our mission is to give back!
