How to get there?

Reaching Kiribati requires international travel to South Tarawa (TRW), the capital of the country.

Participants are responsible for booking their own flights and accommodation and are advised to book travel arrangments only with flexible or refundable options, as the Event may be subject to changes due to logistical, regulatory or safety-related factors. The two international gateways to Kiribati are:

Fiji

Nadi – NAN

Tarawa – TRW

This is the main and most reliable route.

Fiji Airways operates regular flights from Nadi to Tarawa.

Nadi can be reached from major cities such as:

  • Los Angeles
  • San Francisco
  • Sydney
  • Melbourne
  • Auckland
  • Tokyo (via partner airlines)

Australia

Brisbane – BNE

Tarawa – TRW

Occasional or seasonal flights operate between Brisbane and Tarawa (direct or via Nauru, depending on scheduling). Availability varies by year.

Nauru

Nauru – INU

Tarawa – TRW

Nauru Airlines offers regional connections within the Pacific.

This is useful for participants planning to join multiple Pacific marathons.

Entry Requirements

Participants are responsible for ensuring they meet Kiribati’s immigration and visa requirements.

Most travelers require:

  • A valid passport (typically 6 months validity)
  • Return or onward ticket
  • Visa depending on nationality (many countries are visa-free or visa-on-arrival)

We will provide general guidance and official links, but all travel arrangements are made independently.

Arrival in Tarawa

South Tarawa’s Bonriki International Airport (TRW) is small and easy to navigate.

Upon arrival, taxis and local guesthouses can assist with transportation.

Participants should plan to arrive at least 2–3 days before the marathon to adjust to climate and recover from travel.
